What is Slowhug?
A little home venture offering artisanal products for personal care & the household
Our credo: “Taking time to embrace the wellbeing of people & a living planet, crafting fine things for life.”
Pickles for a starter
For many generations, the women in our lineage have crafted pickles with passion. Every season, enough pickles are made and exchanged among families, the near and the dear ones. Pickles among us haven’t just been dietary staples but also threads strengthening our familial ties. They symbolize a rich exchange based on traditional knowledge, local ingredients, and genuine love and care.
Harnessing traditional wisdom, tailored to local palates and conditions, our pickles are crafted with love using indigenous ingredients — be they grown, foraged, exchanged, or traded. This intimate art has flourished over generations, always at a human scale, transmitting and evolving from one household to the next. Our foremothers were not in the business of pickles for monetary gains or expansive growth — they crafted for love, tradition, and connection.
Our Journey with Slowhug
Guided by the ethos of our elders and inspired by a global community of makers, Slowhug emerged from our innate drive to create. It began with small-scale endeavors, much like the way we prepare meals for our loved ones.
These ventures have not only been invigorating but have also enlightened us about the everyday products that we once purchased without much knowledge beyond what the back labels read. As our proficiency grew, we crafted products with an acute awareness of personal and environmental well-being.
Mirroring the age-old art of pickle-making, our creations are personal, shared with friends and loved ones. Our journey has prompted deep reflection on the materials, sources, processes & the culture of production. We envision a paradigm shift in the business world: from profits and expansion to well-being for all. We believe this metamorphosis is vital for an ethically sound society, sustainable economy, and a flourishing environment.
Rooted in our belief in collective well-being, we’re steered by the Permaculture Ethics — Caring for the Earth, people, and ensuring a just share for all. In essence, much like our grandmothers’ pickling tradition, Slowhug remains intimate, home-centric, operating at a human scale. Our journey has been marked by learning & unlearning, discovery, creativity and celebration.
Slowhug is a melody that we want to hum along with people and improvise together.
